Poetical Urgency
"The expression of my sculptures invites viewers to take a journey beyond the real to prepare to enter a 'world' that cannot be expressed in words."
The exhibition Poetical Urgency marks an important milestone for Gabriel. He shares his aesthetic experience with the public and collectors. The artworks assemble stone, metal, and fiberglass. These materials are no longer metaphorical or narrative. The architectural shapes, structures, and construction offer a visual adventure. They provide a broader, more egalitarian perspective for art appreciation.
Gabriel states that the creative process for this exhibition is complex. He found it challenging to combine different materials into a single, unified structure. He carefully calculated space, time, and material context. The materials are no longer metaformal, such as in his previous stone period.
"These works summarize several visual compositions. I created these compositions from shapes and forms found during sample production. I also used visual memories of architecture from Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Indonesian cities after my travels. This research on forms and architecture drives me to create specific compositions. I choose materials that I already store in my studio. Then, I turn them into art pieces," Gabriel Aries Setiadi said at the exhibition opening.
